Weeping Rock

from $60.00

Archival digital print on soft-textured fine art paper. Available in 8X10 or 11X14 inches.

The original watercolor drawing, by Bryce Lafferty, which is inspired by the Subway Trail in Zion National Park, is now available as a print.

During his artist residency in Zion, Bryce Lafferty was inspired by the contrasting natural beauty around him. The “Subway Trail” gets its name from the unique erosion carved by the Right Fork of the Virgin River into the base of the Navajo sandstone cliffs, giving the appearance of a subway tunnel.

The reason these rocks “weep” is because rain water soaks deep into the sandstone and then squeezes out through cracks in the sides of the cliffs, creating small springs. The springs provide sanctuary for the plants that would otherwise not be able to survive.
